NEW EARSWICK DISABLED SWIMMING CLUB

Many Amputees in our group go swimming here every week. In the beginning, everyone of them has had the same convictions and worries as you are probably having now. (Yes, we know what they are).

It really isn’t that hard to get used to, with lots of help and support available at the pool itself.

The benefits are huge, even if you can’t swim; just being in the water is a boost to your well being and mental health.

Facilities include:

Large free car park

Wheelchairs available for use in the pool area

Hoist for easy access

Selection of floats

Two Lifeguards always present

Volunteer carers for both male and female.

Spectator’s area for carers family and friends.

Visiting the Pool

On first arriving expect to be greeted by friendly faces in the Foyer, happy to help you with any concerns. You’ll be able to swim straightaway and take a membership form away with you.

In the changing area there is always plenty of help available and nothing is too much trouble. If using a wheelchair, someone will take you out to the pool to be lowered in the water using the hoist. If you are happy to use crutches, there are easy access steps as an alternative to getting in the water. At its deepest point the depth is 1.98 metres and the shallow end 0.915.

The cost for each session is £3.00, with your first swim free. Membership is £15.00 for the year and when you bring a carer they get in for free every time.

Sessions run for an hour every Wednesday and Friday at 10.30am
